Moody Goose at The Old Priory Hotel

Church Square, Midsomer Norton, Bath, BA3 2HX

Set in a unique 12th century Priory which has retained all the original architectural features, The Moody Goose Restaurant combines all the charm of the old with the experience of an award winning team. Innovation characterises the kitchen with a strong emphasis on seasonality. There is no doubt that Stephen Shore, chef and co-owner with his partner, Jennifer Laws, are a highly accomplished chef and front of house team. Choices could include: salad of Cornish lobster, green beans and truffle oil with potato and quails' eggs; cannelloni of confit wild rabbit with roasted apple and herb broth; seared tuna and lemon sole roulade with a tomato and basil sorbet and those are just to begin with.

Why not follow with pan fried calf's liver with roasted avocado and pink grapefruit or roasted rump of lamb with a pine kernel crust, parmesan tuille and ratatouille and to finish, a tian of English raspberries, caramel discs and mascarpone with a raspberry sorbet? Splendid preparation and a fine atmosphere have ensured that this establishment features in many guides. Set menus at lunch represent excellent value considering the quality of what is on offer.

REVIEWS OF Moody Goose at The Old Priory Hotel

Richard J. P. D'Silva (25 April 2003)

Fantastic! Friendly staff, lovely surroundings - v romantic. The food is amongst the best I have ever tasted -surpasses Le Gavroche, on a par with Nobu.

Prices from the main menu are comparable to Londinium but it is well worth it.

Visit by all means but please try to keep it between the few of us - I would love to go again and want to be assured of a table!!

NB. Review from August 2002.
