Moomba Kitchen & Bar - Putney

One of the most encouraging surges in recent eating out trends has been the extension of the neighbourhood restaurant, where prices and informality blend to create an atmosphere of easy living. Of such is Moomba, where the denizens of Putney and beyond congregate to enjoy a broad based cuisine in comfortable and relaxed surroundings. All the lunch main courses are under £10 and include a mouth-watering home made steak and ale pie with creamy mash and peas, or haddock and prawn fishcakes with mustard sauce and dressed salad.
Evening falls, the mood softens, time becomes infinite and starters of beef carpaccio with shaved Parmesan, or salmon and cucumber timbale with dill and Greek yoghurt dressing appear, as a prelude to, say, grilled swordfish, rosemary potatoes and aubergine caponata, loin of lamb on a bed of lentils with sauté potatoes and tzatziki sauce, or for the veggies in our midst a nice bowl of mixed zucchini and honey roasted carrots.
The home made trend works through the desserts with carrot cake, or apple crumble and custard, with rich chocolate fudge cake with vanilla ice cream amongst the options. A simple wine list gives good choice by the bottle or glass, and the service remains friendly and unhurried after the recent changes. They remain open until 11.30pm.

REVIEWS OF Moomba Kitchen & Bar - Putney
Carey (29 April 2010)
Recently moved to the area and was highly recommended by some foodie friends to go to Moomba Bar and Kitchen in Putney. There were four of us and we had a really lovely time. The service was attentive and the food was delicious. We all had starters of prawn cocktail, chickpea cakes, mezze plate, and pear and stilton salad. For mains we had the fillet steak, tropical sole, pork chops and paneer curry. For dessert we had the eton mess and choc cake. The wine was recommended to us by the owner who made us feel so welcome. It is a beautiful funky restaurant which is very good value for money. We will definitely be going to Moomba on a regular basis. I hear they do great eggs Benedict!

I have been going to Moomba since 2006 and I always enjoyed it. I would go as far as saying it was my favourite restaurant in Putney for good, honest down to earth food and excellent atmosphere. However sometime in 2008 I think the standards I had come to love and enjoy slipped dramatically. I went there this weekend of February 2010 after an absence of over a year and I have to say - I thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot has changed, all for the better and I will definitely recommend it and will be frequenting it again. The owner is lovely and always makes us feel that it’s a little home from home. I also find it child friendly which is always a plus when you have a little one. Keep up the good work!
