Mosaica at The Chocolate Factory Description

Mosaica @ The Factory was the first baby of John Mountain. In 2000 when it opened in a disused chocolate factory in Wood Green many people thought that it was destined for complete failure. However, after a year of next to no customers the word began to spread and now Mosaica is probably one of the most successful North London restaurants, a testament to that are the many superb reviews that it has received from publications like Time Out and The Evening Standard.

The food is honest and straightforward. In true John Mountain style there are no microwaves and there are no sauces or products on the menu that have not been made by the chefs. They don't buy in anything; if they can't make it themselves it doesn't go on the menu. All breads, pastas, ice-creams etc are homemade and are some of the best you will find.

Likely candidates for the menu will be Ribeye Steak with garlic mash and fine beans, seared scallops, lamb shank, asparagus and parmesan salad, sea bass, the list is endless. As with Mosaica @ The Lock the menu changes constantly, practically everyday, allowing the chefs to use the most seasonal fresh ingredients they can find.

Does it all sound too good to be true? Why not go and put them to the test - you are unlikely be disappointed!

Your Reviews of Mosaica at The Chocolate Factory

Georgina (26 May 2008)

I ate in Mosaica a few weeks ago and found the food to be sub standard. When I approached the manager a few days later with a complaint, I received a rude response. Well lucky for him - I won't be going back!

Joanna (20 May 2008)

I went to Mosaica for the first time on Saturday night and to say that I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. The attention to detail by the staff was second to none. The maître d’, chef and doorman knew our names when we arrived, and the waiters knew the menu inside out and were happy to make recommendations. The entrance is a little daunting - the building feels and smells like a leisure centre but as soon as you step into the restaurant, it’s almost a different world there. The interiors are dimly lit with candlelight and mismatched oversized dark wood furnishings; our table was huge for two people, which was a nice touch, and exposed pipework and metal on the ceiling.

The menu was small but everything on it sounded delicious and I can definitely recommend the huge prawn to start, and the rare ribeye and pork belly for mains. We didn't have dessert as we were too full. The food was beautifully presented, tasted really good and not overly expensive. I would recommend this place - the best restaurant I’ve been to in a very long time!
