Moti Mahal

Quality Indian restaurants are always welcome on the London scene and Moti Mahal has strong credentials to offer, with four successful restaurants in Delhi to its name, combined with over forty years experience of serving traditional Indian cuisine to contented customers. At the controls at Moti Mahal is Anirudh Arora, formerly sous chef of Benares.

There are three menus, lunch, a la carte and pre-theatre. The a la carte could start with sagar rattan, scallops tossed with tamarind and tiny tomatoes, pan fried crab cakes, followed by gilafi seekh, venison kebab with saffron, mace and onion from the tandoor. For the main course a house speciality, the chicken tikka simmered in a creamy tomato sauce, or prawns in a peppery curry sauce, followed by traditional fig ice cream served with stewed figs in sherry.

It is not until somebody seeking out real Indian cooking has been to a restaurant like Moti Mahal, that the full range of Indian cuisine can even begin to be appreciated, with not a bottle of Kingfisher in sight, a wine list that would do credit to a French restaurant, and a choice of single malts that would impress all but the most demanding aficionado of that wonderful spirit. The décor, like everything else is glamorous to the maximum conducive with good taste. Service as so often in Indian restaurants of all standards, is impeccable.
