Mr Kong
21 Lisle Street, London, WC2H 7BA
Since 1984 Mr Kong has been one of the Steady Eddies of Chinatown, renowned for its excellent Cantonese dishes, and with some delightful seafood fare, diners will also find plenty beyond the standard offerings to tickle their taste buds. There's nothing elaborate about the surroundings, which are rather on the functional side, but the standard of cooking is commendable and some of the more conventional dishes are particularly good. Lettuce wrapped with minced mixed seafood, jelly fish and deep-fried crab claws makes a particularly memorable debut, closely followed by chef's specials like deep-fried crispy Mongolian lamb, baked pork chops with onions and chilli bean sauce, and sautéed sliced duck with fresh mango and asparagus.Since 1984 Mr Kong has been one of the Steady Eddies of Chinatown, renowned for its excellent Cantonese dishes, and with some delightful seafood fare, diners will also find plenty beyond the standard offerings to tickle their taste buds. The menu also aids the indecisive with its fixed price set options for up to eight people.
At the end of your meal you may feel that tea would be your preferred tipple, although there is Cointreau and Jack Daniel's.

REVIEWS OF Mr Kong
Lonnie (14 October 2010)
Quite simply, the best! Amazing menu choice - try the soft shell crab for a real treat, and the spring roll makes me think many other Chinese Restaurants buy them frozen in bulk! Service was excellent - attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Prices were fair for this standard of food and area of London.
T.Walker (18 August 2008)
We went to Mr Kong's on Saturday and my wife was made to sit next to a large stack of chairs, and because it was full we were unable to be re-seated elsewhere. We plumped for a set menu as we both liked what was on it. We started with crab and sweet corn soup. Then the prawn toast and pancake rolls, which came with Worcestershire sauce, is not one of the better known inventions of the Chinese I must admit, I thought it would have been soya sauce. The duck and pancakes were just okay apart from the fact that the duck was dry and the cucumber had been left out all day and were dry as well. The main course was beef in oyster sauce and sweet and sour pork. The beef was rubbery and the pork had no taste and was hard and dry. The special rice was very special I would think as the prawns in it were a few days old because their taste was so strong as to make it inedible. On complaining they graciously deducted the service charge, which they charge whether you want to leave a tip or not.
