Mundy Bois, The Description
The Mundy Bois combines the warmth of a traditional Kentish country freehouse with a first-class restaurant. Situated off the beaten track between the villages of Pluckley, Egerton and Smarden, the Mundy Bois lies in the heart of the Weald of Kent - 'Darling Buds of May' country.
The à la carte menu offers fully-traceable, local produce; featuring a range of dishes using Aberdeen Angus Beef, Romney Lamb and free range Berkshire and British Saddleback Pork. These traditional breeds are raised on local farms using welfare friendly, low-stress farming systems - free of growth promoters or in feed antibiotics - producing meats with the finest texture and taste.
For casual diners, the Bar Menu offers homemade bar meals and snacks. Come and try the Aberdeen Angus or minted lamb burgers, or their pork and cider gourmet sausage and mash. In the Village Bar - where Ted, their Labrador, can usually be found in front of the inglenook - you will find a range of real ales, lagers and quality wines. Their patio and garden allows al fresco eating and, for the kids, there is an adventure playground, or you can enjoy a game of pool in the games room.
Your Reviews of Mundy Bois, The
Guest (13 September 2008)
We found this to be a shockingly poor experience when we went there last week to try it out as we have been to most restaurants in the Tenterden area. To start with, the head waitress had asked us what we were going to drink before we had even sat down or seen the drinks menu. When the food arrived, my husband had ordered lamb, and after trying several pieces of the meat found that the dish featured a mix of both lamb and beef. It was covered in such thick Bisto gravy though, it was hard to discern. The lasagne was a slab of dark burnt brown pasta, with some inexpensive mince and no white sauce, the roast chicken was acceptable, but again covered in thick beef Bisto gravy. Then it was time for dessert; when we asked the waitress to describe the Peach Melba tart, the best she could offer was 'well it's a sort of spongy thing, with some cream stuff on it. I can't really explain it better than that.' When asked if there were peaches in it, he response was 'oh yeah but they're not fresh, though.' we opted for the ice cream, in the hope that it was not homemade. We felt that the waitresses could not have been more indifferent to our dining experience and that the food could not have been more poorly produced. It was quite a depressing experience, really.
