Mustard Seed Restaurant, The Description

Opened in 2001 and situated on the banks of the River Ness, The Mustard Seed is a relaxed and informal, modern style family restaurant. Located in a former church, The Mustard Seed retains the feel of its former existence with its high, vaulted ceilings and mezzanine floor. The arched windows provide natural lighting that combines with the vibrant mustard yellow interior and restored architecture of old to highlight the ornaments and paintings that adorn the walls.

Their menus change on a weekly basis and are accompanied by daily-changing specials that reflect the region, the country and the time of year. Vegetarian options are always available, whilst menus catering for the younger customer are also available.

Using only the freshest Highland produce, The Mustard Seed offers a menu that combines traditional French and Scottish cuisine with elements of the New World, producing a interesting and different choice, with daily specials on offer.

Dishes could include: grilled Mediterranean vegetable risotto with red pesto or duck liver and foie gras parfait with candied orange to begin, followed by crispy salmon with angel hair pasta and chorizo sauce or marinated pork fillet with Sicilian sausage risotto.

Your Reviews of Mustard Seed Restaurant, The

Louise Hunter (4 September 2008)

I ate at The Mustard Seed last night with some friends and I'm pleased to say that it was a pleasure to be there. We ordered four very different courses from fillet steak to red snapper and all were delicious, cooked appropriately and well presented. This consistency extended through all three courses. My only complaint would be there is very little room at some of the tables, and indeed between some of the tables. We were jammed in a window recess, which took away from what would have otherwise been a wonderful evening. That said, from a food perspective it’s worth a visit.

We visited The Mustard Seed while on holiday in Scotland. We were only in Inverness for two nights and would usually try different restaurants each day, but thankfully we went to The Mustard Seed on our first night and then could not wait to go back the second night.

The Mustard Seed is in a converted church with high ceilings and on two levels. It is overlooks the river in Inverness town centre. I'm sure that in summer tables on the balcony would be in short supply as the whole restaurant was full even on a dark, wet weekday evening in November!

There is a lively atmosphere, the lighting is warm and inviting and the food amazing and very reasonably priced. Different specials are available each day to complement the standard menu. We recommend the duck with neeps and tatties for starter – it is delicious and do make sure you have room for desert too!

The restaurant even has a loyalty card for free coffee, lunch etc. They also have cheaper early evening menus (5:30-7pm) as well as dinner from 7pm.Several awards are displayed inside the door and in the corridor upstairs they have framed thank you letters from diners. We will definitely visit again - our next trip to Scotland will be planned around dinner here!
