A recent refurbishment has updated the look of New Diamond with clean, light walls decorated by a few pieces of Chinese artwork together with down lighting and bright white tablecloths; this makes New Diamond quite a trendy contender among Chinatown's restaurants. The menu is rather more adventurous than most, though you can always opt for the familiar sweet and sour pork or crispy duck with pancakes. However, helpful staff members are on hand to advise you about the more esoteric dishes, if you are brave enough for them: octopus fried in fermented shrimp paste, or duck feet with fish lips, or soup of salted eggs with algae are among the more unusual choices. It is very popular, so book in advance to be sure of getting a table, especially on a Friday or Saturday night.
