No. 1 Sallyport

We came across No.1 Sallyport in the afternoon looking somewhere for dinner. Being nosey we went inside to find two friendly ladies folding napkins. We chatted for ages about food following a recent bad experience in Warkworth and had a good feeling about this place and we weren't disappointed. Their accommodation was fully booked for a wedding party; however the restaurant was not booked. We had the whole place to ourselves - what a joy. We had the most delicious scallops we have ever eaten. The beef for main course melted in the mouth, which was served with a running commentary of the recipe for the beetroot relish and the dauphinoise potatoes, which were to die for. We were going to skip the puddings but curiosity got the better of us as the earlier courses had been so good. The lemon posset was heavenly and the raspberry roulade came to an end far too soon. Add together a superb bottle of wine, which we have looked for since getting home and can't find anywhere, with service fit for royalty and the experience, cannot be bettered - and we have tried. We'll be back.

It was a disappointment – a worn-out dining room and overpriced food, which was not enough to fill a plate. It looked wonderful but was very disappointing, it was much more expensive than what was stated.
