Nobody Inn Description

The Nobody Inn is known not only for its traditional cask ales but has over 700 wines and over 200 whiskies available. You can even order wines by mail order. (Bring a driver seems wise advice!) It also offers a large range of Devon cheeses.

It is hidden down winding lanes but worth honing the map-reading skills for. The Nobody Inn has won many awards and it features in many pub and food guides.

The bar menu is highly imaginative and reasonably priced. Typical starters include mozzarella and Denhay ham with sun blush tomatoes and toasted ciabatta; duck liver pate with tomato and apple chutney and toast; fresh crab salad with tarragon mayonnaise; gravadlax with smoked prawns and garlic mayonnaise.

Bar mains include duck confit with roasted figs and balsamic vinegar; breast of chicken with puy lentils, smoked bacon and peppercorn sauce; pork casserole with grain mustard, capers and lemon. You could easily have a three-course meal for around £20 in the bar.

Restaurant choices entice with such starters as roasted salmon on brioche with a light citrus sauce and roasted peppers; gravadlax with smoked Dartmouth prawns and crevette tails; vegetable risotto with sweet pepper sauce; or guinea fowl, mushroom and red wine terrine

Main courses include braised lamb sweetbreads, cooked in a creamy white wine sauce with mushrooms and parsley; pork tenderloin cooked in a little oil and garlic served in a sauce made from the pan juices, white wine, mushrooms, double cream, parsley and chives; grilled sirloin of beef with a red wine, shallot and mushroom sauce; local ostrich fillet, cooked rare and served with a rich slightly spicy, cranberry, gherkin and ox tongue sauce; pan-fried halibut with green peppercorn, tomato, bell-pepper, coriander and white wine sauce, and a selection of vegetarian dishes.

Desserts are appropriately sinful and also include a selection of the local cheeses.

Your Reviews of Nobody Inn

Martin Kenny (31 January 2005)

My wife and I have stayed here four times over the past three years. The restaurant food has been uniformly excellent on each occasion. The food is relatively simple and served without excessive frills but is well-sourced, excellently cooked and served by knowledgeable friendly staff. The bar meals are only fractionally less good than those in the restaurant - you miss out on the excellent bread and spreadable (it's a shame it needs a comment!) butter. The breakfasts are superb. Add to this the most amazing array of wines and spirits, excellent beer and interesting architecture - all the ingredients for a great evening or weekend break.
