Nonna's Description
Nonna's is a wonderful mixture of antipasto bar, coffee bar and full service restaurant, open for lunch and dinner.
The antipasto bar is open from 12 noon till late 7 days a week, serving a wide range of great italian wines by the glass, cool draught Peroni, authentic grappas and vermouths; their food is fresh, authentic and bite size to go with whatever you're drinking and includes a range of seafood, olives, bread, cheese and vegetarian dishes.
Their coffee bar is open from 8.30am till late 7 days a week, they promise you perfect coffee, Italian TV and an authentic Italian start to the day... whatever time you start.
Finally the restaurant, which is open every day for lunch and dinner; during the day it is lighter in feel, with delicious pasta dishes, a full meal and there are lots of salads for those who prefer to eat lightly and taken with a glass of cool white or juicy red wine either in the restaurant or on the terrazza in warmer weather, you could almost be in Italy.
In the evening low lights, music and banter set the atmosphere but the modern Italian food and wine remain at the centre of the experience.

We visited them on a very busy Saturday at lunchtime, so the atmosphere was lively. I feel I have eaten better for less in better surroundings on Kings Road, London - perhaps not so much competition in Sheffield. They forgot to charge us for drinks but made the bill more realistic. I never had smoked haddock in Italy so am not sure on its authenticity. I will not be going back.

I went to Nonna's for a friend's birthday. As there were more than six of us, we had to go for the group menu option, which consisted of three choices for each course, not an extensive choice - soup, chicken pate or vegetarian options for the starter and chicken, fish or mushroom pancake for the main. Ice cream, tiramisu or tart for dessert. We asked for tap water and were brought bottles of mineral water that were being opened as they arrived. The portions were beautifully presented, but rather small, and I was not the only person still hungry at the end of the meal. We were also charged £25 plus the compulsory service charge, at the end of the meal - a figure that I would have been happy to pay if the choice was more substantial and the portions bigger.
