REVIEWS OF Noodle Noodle - Buckingham

Sri (23 August 2007)

I had a weird experience at the Noodle Noodle. I had ordered Chicken soup noodle and it was served with spaghetti. No one would expect to be served with spaghetti at oriental noodle restaurant so I had asked a lady serving food about it. She told me "yes, it is spaghetti so what is the problem? You should have asked us what kind of noodle we have before ordering dishes." The way of speaking was quite rude and she (apparently an Asian lady) knew what I had meant. No one would expect to eat spaghetti for Chinese dishes. There's no description on the menu saying that customers should ask the type of noodle before ordering or you would get spaghetti in your noodle soup. The restaurant should clarify that to avoid confusion.

Having looked at this restaurant the day earlier I was expecting something similar to the more famous ‘Wagamama’. Sure enough looking at the menu available I was not surprised to see some similar looking dishes. The experience however, was unfortunately nowhere near the same!

Entering the restaurant, albeit in the snowy blizzard that hit us last week, I found the temperature inside was not much better than that outside. Not a good start.

We (my friend and I) ordered a 3 courses from the set menu provided, for the Times offer users, that was bizarrely entitled ‘The Sun Offer’. It was priced at £7 (which we were told was actually £7.50). Within a minute of ordering we thought that we would change our choice to exclude the desserts, due to previous experiences of huge portion sizes at other ‘oriental’ restaurant. But, we were told that the computer couldn’t change the order! Hmmm!

Anyway the starters came, veggie (were veggie) spring rolls… it tasted like it had just come out of the microwave… so much for the fresh touch! Main course of Curry/rice and stir fry vegetables gave a refreshing taste with a true oriental touch… but taking in context that could have been due to the rubber taste of the starters. Feeling better now, after an expectable main course, the desserts came, were surprisingly well presented and were a nice end to the meal.

After all this I thought that I would ask for a second dessert, expecting to be told the order cannot be changed. However to my surprise, well not really, they told me that was fine! Hmmm!

I then proceeded to change my mind and politely asked for the bill. On receiving the bill, I remembered the 10% service charge. Well now… the bill came to £15 (2x£7.50) plus £1.60 service charge (total £16.60). Now correct me if I’m wrong but 10% of 15 is not 1.6! I may be nitpicking here, but lack of good service, plus the cheek to charge extra for it is definitely ‘bad form’. I tried to explain this to the manager… well let’s just
