Northern Quarter Restaurant and Bar, The Description
The Northern Quarter restaurant (TNQ) opposite the lovely old façade of the original Smithfield fish market has become one of the better attraction of this trendy Manchester area from which it takes its name. Wearing its location on its sleeve, The Northern Quarter Restaurant and Bar is a sign of the recent gentrification and is also proof positive that a simple approach works. With a view into the kitchen, sympathetic lighting and waist high frosting on the windows, the dining room at TNQ is a welcoming proposition.
Funky, but not frightening, the pleasant dining room is a welcoming place to dine at for classics done well. Head Chef Anthony Fielden trained in some top Manchester eateries and serves up gutsy fresh food, whilst using prime local ingredients with added flavours of the Med and beyond. The menu changes frequently making the most of seasonal ingredients.
"The place to people watch" - Style magazine, Sunday Times.
Fixed Lunch
- £11.95 (2 courses) to £14.95 (3 courses), Sun, 12 - 7 pm

My partner and I ate there on a Saturday night in June. We had a couple of glasses of the Prosecco to start with - very nice. For starters we had the sea trout and the carpaccio - both of which were excellent. I personally preferred the sea trout. For mains we had the beef and the halibut - again both excellent - with sides of a tomato and red onion salad. For dessert I had the Eton mess - again excellent, along with two glasses of the dessert wine - they didn't have our first choice however. With a bottle of Viognier - the bill came to just over a £100 including 10% service - excellent. I would recommend and certainly go back. The service was very good. The only 'negative' was that the restaurant was quite noisy, but a certain plus point is that they open very late - and the Northern Quarter is certainly the place to be.

Had a wonderful meal at TNQ on Friday, this place is fast becoming one of my favourites. The new menu has loads of really interesting dishes, and there were specials on the board to choose from too. Lovely wine and good, friendly service. I can't wait to go back.
