Nosebag Resaturant, The

The Nosebag is believed to be one of Oxford's oldest independent restaurants, perfectly situated in a 15th century oak-beamed listed building in St Michael's Street. So if you feel like experiencing authentic old world charm in the rush of the 21st century, pop in to the buzzing restaurant.

The lovely little place serves large portions of dishes that are simple and wholesome. Choices include piping hot soups and healthy salads as well as lunchtime beef lasagne; coconut and almond chicken curry served with rice and green salad; root vegetable goulash with gherkins and yoghurt; smoked mackerel or chicken liver pâté, and quiche with salad.

Expect to find baked stuffed potatoes; a carrot and coriander load served with creamy onion sauce; Asian style pork and aubergine hot pot, and Guinness stew with sage dumplings, and a chicken, artichoke and lemon thyme risotto in the evening.

Drinks such as hot chocolate and coffee as well as cakes and scones complement the food.
