Number 10
10 Goldborne Road, London, W10 5PE
Number 10 has been long in the coming but its bar, restaurant and members' bar are now in full swing. Whilst essentially a live music venue nothing has been left to chance in the restaurant and from breakfast through afternoon tea to dining this lively location makes the most of its inspired décor, derived from 1950's architecture, railway station canteens, ski chalets and the cult film Jubilee. Once you have adjusted to this medley of concepts it's time for the food which enjoys some elements of the same approach with starters of scotched quails' eggs, duck breast and seared scallops competing for favours. A new take on a steak is provided by the New York strip with béarnaise sauce, roast cherry tomatoes and hand made chips, whilst for those of a gentler disposition there is the butternut squash with roasted cumin and tomatoes.Number 10 has been long in the coming but its bar, restaurant and members' bar are now in full swing. Desserts are not such a strong point but if you like bread and butter pudding or chocolate fondant you will not go away unhappy. In many ways the food is a reflection of the trend away from over-prepared works of art to something more like what you would enjoy at home, but can somehow never find the time to do. Whilst they take last orders at 10.30 pm in the restaurant, it actually stays open until midnight, and upstairs to 1 am.
