Oak Room at Danesfield House Hotel & Spa, The Description

danesfield house hotel oakThis fine 19th century country house was converted in 1991 from a country mansion house into the magnificent country house hotel it is today. It provides the setting for the Oak Room restaurant which has been awarded one of the highest possible accolades, four Rosettes for culinary excellence in the AA Restaurant Guide 2009. The award of the fourth Rosette demonstrates head chef's, Adam Simmonds, passion for excellence, his superb technical ability, remarkable consistency and ambition.

The AA Restaurant Guide comments 'Head Chef Adam Simmonds's modern approach is underpinned by a classical theme to produce top quality, innovative cooking using top-notch seasonal produce and some serious technical skill. Once you have eaten there, you'll certainly want to repeat the experience'. Add to this the fact that The Good Food Guide 2009 has placed the Oak Room 19th in the UK and you can be assured that you are visiting one of the finest restaurants in Buckinghamshire.

Danesfield House Hotel and Spa is situated in 65 acres of glorious grounds in the heart of the Chilterns, overlooking magnificent formal gardens, grand topiary and the River Thames. With award-winning cuisine, the hotel also prides itself on a high level of personal service and providing its guests with a strong sense of feeling at home.

Adam's culinary style is essentially Modern British but his cookery is rooted in French classic cuisine with modern techniques to give it a more contemporary and innovative edge. Seasonality, flavour, and the combining of flavour and texture to create the best experience are essential elements within his cuisine. The à la carte menu is available at £55 for three courses whilst a seven course tasting menu priced at £75 is also available, which can also be accompanied by a series of wines specially chosen by the sommelier to accompany each dish.

The Oak Room also offers a three course lunch menu, from Wednesday to Saturday, which is excellent value at just £29.50 for three courses. The lunch menu features dishes chosen by Adam on the day according to what's best in season. The Oak Room's light interior makes it a lovely setting, particularly when combined with a pre-luncheon or dinner aperitif on the terrace or a stroll around the hotel's beautiful gardens.

Your Reviews of Oak Room at Danesfield House Hotel & Spa, The

WMcM (13 November 2009)

I overlooked this one following two mediocre experiences a few years back in Oak Room and Brasserie, concluding that local competition was better. Oh, how things can change! The Oak Room’s chef turns ingredients into remarkably stylish dishes with taste, textures and presentation battling for supremacy. Utterly delightful and knowledgeable staff saved the quiet atmosphere from sterility on a quiet evening. Adam Simmonds won a Michelin star when in Wales, so if it were up to me and other diners perhaps, then he deserves another.

Paul (14 September 2009)

I did not have dinner there but had a brilliant afternoon tea. It was very nice and I sat on the terrace overlooking the Thames Valley on a lovely sunny September afternoon; what could be better?
