Obalende Suya - Dalston

523 Kingsland Road, London, E8 4AR

Popular amongst the African nationals and even others who are keen on experimenting with new cuisines is Obelende Suya where food becomes the great leveller and it is delightful to see disparate people enjoying the same delicious fare. The focus in both their locations is primarily on suya, the grilled kebab like dish which is a national favourite although the menu lists other popular items as well. The grill greedy buffet offers a wide choice of grilled meats, regular and exotic such as lamb and chicken or even crocodile and shark. The à la carte promises an interesting selection of dishes which includes starters of stewed snails with onions and pepper rings while the leaf wrapped steamed rice with spicy assorted meat could make for an ample main course in itself.

Dennis Brown (5 June 2008)

The food at Obalende Suya is absolutely brilliant - this is African food at its best. If you really want to get full value for your money, then I’d strongly recommend that you visit them on a Sunday and try out their buffet. They serve some great African food, plus all you can eat for one at low prices.
