Oddfellows in the Boat Description
The unusual name may just be an oddity, a whim, but a visit to Oddfellows in the Boat will confirm that their food is anything but whimsical. Hearty and filling, with a lot of attention towards healthy cooking, this Lichfield pub has gained considerable popularity in recent years. The simplistic décor with wooden furniture is deceptive, and although some people rate the ambience factor of a restaurant highly, it surely cannot exceed superior culinary expertise?
The chalkboard menu proclaims the daily specials as well as the regular menu although it changes every so often, but typically, dishes such as mosaic of seafood terrine wrapped in smoked salmon feature in the starters. For the main course, you might find honey and chestnut roasted duck breast with juniper sauce whilst you can end with a warm chocolate tart with mascarpone. The wine list is eclectic, travelling across Europe and the New World to bring you a good number of choices.
Your Reviews of Oddfellows in the Boat
Michael Waters (28 November 2008)
I dined at Oddfellows last Thursday for the first time for an early Christmas works party. Gary, the Head Chef of the Boat suggested the 'Oddfellows Party Table', which is a hot and cold carved buffet tailored to your requirements. We had a baked gammon joint, lamb rogan josh, fish pie, and a selection of salads and hot vegetables. The food was excellent, all served at the buffet table by Trevor, Gary's second chef, who was on hand to offer advice on all the ingredients as some of our party had special dietary needs, as well as topping up the buffet throughout. The homemade sweet selection was fantastic, in particular the bread and butter pudding. All in all, I will definitely be returning to the Boat with my family, and would recommend the buffet to all.

We have been eating at the Boat regularly for about four years. We have introduced many friends during that time, who in turn have also introduced their friends. The menu offers a wide choice and is reasonably priced, the staff are helpful and friendly and, above all, the food is well cooked and delicious. There are few pubs at which the food reaches the Boat's standard. Dishes will be tailored to your taste, if you ask, and any rare hiccup, which can happen even in Michelin starred restaurants, is put right with politeness and without any fuss. We have no hesitation in recommending the Boat for an enjoyable meal on any occasion. We are amazed at the odd adverse comment; they are not matched by our experience over several years.
