Off The Wall Restaurant

Located in the centre of swinging Edinburgh, Off the Wall is another, but high-ranking, contribution to the emergence of Scottish food in the modern idiom that is now so much a feature of the Edinburgh scene. Stylish and modern without being minimalist the restaurant retains enough of the traditional to satisfy those who are uncomfortable without it. A set two course lunch at £14.95 and a three course dinner at £18.95 are good value. The a la carte offers quality materials, carefully prepared and served with a flourish. Starters include a supreme of squab pigeon with a braised duck leg, creamed leeks and a juniper jus, or a wonderful dish of belly pork, slowly roasted, with caramelised turnip, organic cabbage, roast tomatoes and onion and pork gravy. And yes, these are just starters. A wild sea trout with summer truffle comes with a poached egg of impeccable provenance and an egg watercress sauce. A saddle of spring lamb dish comes well matched with salsify, creamed red onions, Anna potatoes and a grande veneur sauce. Well up the list of desserts is the mango and almond tart, with Italian black cherries and vanilla ice cream. With a user-friendly wine list there is little doubt that overall this restaurant represents some of the best value for money in Edinburgh.
