Old Barn, The

The pattern of farming changes and graceful old barns and steadings take on new life as they become irrelevant to modern agriculture. Fortunately many of them are in delightful locations and adapt well for accommodation. Of such is The Old Barn with its high roof and ancient timbers, the ground floor used for bar snacks and light meals, the mezzanine level a restaurant for those with more time to spare.

The food comes from a reassuringly short menu and includes Asian fish cakes, prawn cocktail, and spicy buffalo wings at starter level. Main courses offer sausage and mash, a traditional Aberdeen Angus lasagne, made to the traditional Italian recipe, or the much respected Old Barn beef or chicken baps. Whole tail scampi and tuna pasta bake are well-priced and popular, with the Steakhouse offering a cooked to order 10oz rib eye, or baby back ribs with barbeque sauce.

A weekly changing menu extends the menu in the direction of hen and hog pie, smoked haddock and creamy leeks, or smoked salmon with lemon dressing and caper and onions. Children have their own menu with golden fishies, chipolata sausages or a scaled down burger. A well equipped bar offers a range of cask and keg bitters.

There is a pleasant atmosphere of freshness about The Old Barn, relating to the food and the rooms where you can stay, with friendly staff to ensure you feel at home. The comments from guests are treasured and there for all to see.
