REVIEWS OF Old India

Curry lover (20 March 2009)

What can I say? A group of 11 of us travelling to Bristol from London were recommended Old India as a good place to eat, so we booked a table. Fifteen minutes after our booking we were standing in the hallway waiting for them to move lots of tables and chairs to squeeze us in. The food smelt delicious, the group decided to have the £20 set menu for ease. I was so disappointed, the colours looked right, but the curries tasted bland. In fact, they all tasted the same - of nothing. The naan bread was nice and the volume of food was more than adequate, but it was definitely a case of quantity not quality. As previous posts have stated, the building is nice but in need of a spruce up. Overall, I left there feeling full, my pocket not much lighter, £26 which was for the food, the drinks and the service charge which come to think about it can't seem right as the alcohol was flowing, and a little disappointed with my overall experience. Don't come here if you want a great curry, but I guess it is okay to 'fill a gap'.

David (17 February 2009)

We eat here regularly and, in our opinion, the food is of a very high quality with a good menu. The building is listed with a high domed ceiling with original fitments in the toilets. The prices are more than reasonable for central Bristol and the service charge is included at a reasonable 10% given the good service provided. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant if you enjoy authentic freshly cooked Indian cuisine. If you want inexpensive Madras, there are plenty of curry houses near by, but they won't be a patch on this place.
