Old Rectory Restaurant, The

A delightful former rectory in the heart of the scenic Cotswolds along a lane that you may find challenging but utterly rural. At some point significant money came into the equation and the Tudor building has been extended in the Palladian style to great effect. The interiors are exquisite. So too is the very English food and in season you might well be tempted by the asparagus from nearby Evesham Vale, with cracked black pepper and truffled Hollandaise sauce. The breast of Goosnargh duck with butternut squash fondant, ravioli of confit leg, accompanied by plum chutney and spiced port jus amply demonstrates why this restaurant is so highly spoken of. You could finish on a high note with the hot strawberry soufflé, strawberry compote and clotted cream ice cream. The service is correct and contributes to the overall feeling of quiet confidence. A well-mannered wine list travels widely with a good selection of half bottles to help you on that winding lane. Six house wines on offer between £14.00 to £18.00.
