Ole Restaurant and Tapas Bar Description

ole tapas bar putneyThis funky Spanish bar and tapas style restaurant is conveniently situated on the Upper Richmond Road in Putney, making it a popular stop off point to enjoy a tapa and drink or two for those on their way home, or those out on the town for the night. It has an artistic bar area that appeals to the modern crowd, whilst the restaurant sitting offers a choice of two levels with stunning views through large glass curtain wall windows to enjoy a relaxed and elegant atmosphere for lunch or dinner.

The menu is made up of both familiar and more unusual dishes. The tapas menu is based on the fresh original produce carefully sourced and presented. The starters and mains widen the selection with some beautifully innovative recipes blending the old and new character of Spain.

Ole prides itself on quality and good value for money. It believes in customer choice and tries to accommodate the relaxed sophistication of the classical restaurant with the speed of everyday life. The different levels of the bar and the restaurant cater for this diverse approach. You can have your quick tapa and glass of Rioja at the bar or spend as much time as you wish tasting the wonderful escalivada or grilled baby calamari, the masterly chicken supreme or rack of lamb and the homemade crema catalana or chocolate brownie with ice cream.

Best of all, Olé prides itself on making all its tortillas to order, a fact clearly evident from their light consistency. There are special offers like the paella Sunday with homemade dessert for £14.50 or the tapas party menu with dessert for £18.95 per person.

Ole was first opened in Fulham Broadway as a small eatery and awarded the coveted red star in both 2003 and 2004 Time Out Eating and Drinking Guide where they stated that: "Olé is several cuts above the standard London tapas bar. It occupies a cool, elegant, white-walled space; the food is carefully prepared and artfully presented; and the drinks, the short, all-Spanish wine list in particular, is well-sourced and sold at reasonable prices.

Despite the nuevo interior, the menu mostly sticks to traditional dishes, of which jamón serrano and albóndigas were excellent examples. Tortilla is a speciality - our chorizo version was beautifully done: small, pan-shaped, with thin slices of potato and a wonderfully squidgy centre, just as in Spain. There are more modern tapas too - Olé!"

The move to Putney has not changed this ethos, on the contrary, it has taken the best of Ole extending the concept to the serious side of eating out as well as the lighter touch idea of the tapa.

More information including their menu and wine list, can be found on their Website; Ole is well suited for private parties, company gatherings and large events like weddings or special celebrations.

The move to Putney has gained the further approval from Time Out, who said, 'So many Spanish restaurants are painfully clichéd, so it is refreshing to see ventures making deliberate departures from convention'.

Your Reviews of Ole Restaurant and Tapas Bar

Foodie Fan (8 October 2007)

Tapas are great cuisine to share amongst friends. Booking a table at Ole was expected to provide the perfect atmosphere, good food and gracious service. As it happens Ole failed to provide even basic courtesy towards diners and displayed an attitude I wouldn’t even expect at a fast food restaurant. On three separate occasions, with three separate waiting staff, we were treated with disrespect, bluntness and insolence. The restaurant was packed and clearly understaffed but the behaviour and manner of these people was still inexcusable. It was truly atrocious.

That said, and to provide a full review, the food itself was good and the price reasonable but, it is no understatement to say from a service perspective it was my worst dining experience.
