Olton Tavern

Lode La, Solihull, B92 8NU

Recently refurbished to help meet the apparently never ending demand for eating out cheaply but well, the Olton relies heavily upon a carvery straight off the new-wave of culinary must-haves, well backed up by a wine wall with wine supplied by Bibendum and therefore beyond reproach. When I read that they offer to go with the carvery main items, free-range Yorkshire puddings it was all of a nano-second before I realised that this referred to the eggs involved. The traditional carvery has long been overdue a face-lift and this high-tech version is a real stunner. And they still manage to give table service. The menu contains a good range of more traditional dishes such as fish and chips, sausage and mash, caramel apple pie, the atmosphere is lively, cheerful and conducive to a pleasant meal out with complete informality but no lack of professionalism.

REVIEWS OF Olton Tavern

Bev Allen (9 May 2011)

Mum, my sister, my grandson and I had a meal on Sunday in May 2011 and would like to say about the excellent service we received from the manager Richard and our lovely waitress Laura. Laura had a great sense of humour and was extremely attentive and pleasant. It makes such a change to receive such good service these days and the meal was great too - so much choice. Only one little negative, the dessert was frozen solid, but Laura, with her sense of humour, made us enjoy it all the same. My sister and I have fond memories of the Olton as we used to visit when we were children with our family, about fifty years ago and played on the old oak tree and with the rabbits they used to have there. Thank you! We will be back.

Helen (6 November 2008)

I have eaten there several times and had a pleasant, reasonably priced meal out. The service has always been very friendly and efficient.
