Orchid, The

The simplest pleasures in life often do not come in fancy packages and this is an adage you might remember as you step inside The Orchid at Trent Bridge. The décor is casually understated but serene and no, you will not find the clichéd dragons or the red and gold colours on the walls. All the more reason to concentrate on their marvellous cuisine, which is a mix of Cantonese, Vietnamese with the odd bit of Malaysian and Thai specialities thrown in.

For starters, the tempura scallops or the chicken with lime leaves on skewers are tempting, while soup lovers will attest to the delights of the crab stick and sweet corn soup. Mains include the tantalising stir fried lamb with red onion, while the fillet steaks with various sauces such as black pepper or satay are excellent. Pork, chicken, beef and seafood are amongst the other different options, which are hugely satisfying.
