Oriental Pearl Bar Restaurant Description

oriental pearl bar restaurantSituated in the fashionable suburb of West Bridgford, Oriental Pearl is a sophisticated bar and contemporary Cantonese restaurant, offering their well known excellent quality Oriental cuisine together with a wide selection of world beers, stylish cocktails and fine wines.

It incorporates a ground floor bar and lounge furnished with soft leather sofas and designer armchairs, whilst on the first floor there is a minimalist Zen restaurant with glass atrium. Recently (2006) the Pearl has undergone a major refurbishment. The whole emphasis has been to put the 'oriental' back into the equation. This has involved antique wooden screens, authentically carved dark wooden tables with complementary low seating and mood lighting, giving a whole new feeling of sensual opulence that is wholly at ease with the cuisine.

The Skyline lounge provides a choice of casual bar dining during the day and a la carte in the evenings, all served against a backdrop of sumptuous suede and Chinese silk banquet seating.

Upstairs, a contemporary restaurant fitted out with Chinese lanterns and Oriental furnishings is divided into three dining areas that enable the room to suit the mood of those coming to enjoy this carefully crafted temple to Far Eastern indulgence. Pearl is a participating restaurant in the Gourmet Society and was recently named 'the city's finest Cantonese' by Easyjet magazine

All the favourite traditional Cantonese dishes are to be found here, well supported by others from further afield. Try their especial stuffed duck in plum sauce, adding a new dimension to this popular dish, or dry fried squid with crisp seaweed and chilli. Fresh lobster in ginger and spring onion is delicate, with the flesh firm but not resistant. Red and white King prawns are served with green vegetables, perhaps followed 'Cha Sui' barbecued loin of pork done with honey.

On Sundays a buffet is served under £10 for adults, slightly over a fiver for the children, and excellent value. Set menus take the pain out of choosing, typically chicken and sweetcorn soup, mixed hors d'oeuvres, lemon chicken, King prawn and black bean sauce, satay beef and fried rice. They also do takeaways.

A wine list of around 40 bins takes heed of the Western attitudes to wine and Oriental cuisine.

Their Website can keep up to date with this enterprising and attractive restaurant, far enough away from the centre to avoid any problems, near enough to be convenient.

Your Reviews of Oriental Pearl Bar Restaurant

Rich (25 June 2008)

I just ate there for the first time and wow what a great place! It’s a cool place with no tacky Chinese decor you would normally expect; it's sleek and stylish with decent music and great service. Then there's the food - I had prawn toast and shredded beef - all the dishes were divine. I'd go as far as to say it's the best Chinese I've ever had and this place is highly recommended.

I've eaten here a few of times and never been disappointed. The restaurant has recently had a facelift and now includes a smart Cafe bar. Excellent service and excellent food!
