REVIEWS OF Oscar

Maya (26 May 2007)

My friends and I from Dubai were looking for a funky place with good food and a great atmosphere. We read about the hotel in an airline magazine on BA and decided to try out the restaurant for breakfast. We arrived at 10am and were afraid we would not be able to get breakfast, but luckily they serve breakfast until 11am or so. When we got in we were greeted by a very suave host who connected with us girls straight away and without asking put us at a lovely big round table where we could laugh and talk easily.

As we sat down, we eyed the luscious buffet with hunger borne of a long night out dancing. The restaurant was really busy and we thought it would take forever to get our food. But, the server came right away and told us about their smoothy - mango, papaya and other fruits - which was delicious! A couple of us ate at the buffet and three of us ordered from the menu. The food - despite the busy restaurant - came within 10 minutes and was excellent.

While we were eating, we noticed a really beautiful manager buzzing around the restaurant. But, she still took the time to come to the table to check on us and let us know that if we needed anything she was there for us!

So to make a long story, short, we had a great breakfast, at a funky place, in a great location and we recommend everyone after a night out should treat themselves to a pampered and luxurious breakfast at Oscars in Charlotte Hotel.

Silvester (28 April 2007)

We stumbled in to Oscars, looking for refuge from the chaos of Charlotte Street, with no reservation and low expectations of getting a table on such a balmy Friday night. We were surprised to get not just any table, but a really intimate and comfy table in the corner, by the window into the kitchen.

Service was attentive and friendly but not overly. There when you need it and not when you didn't. Menu was interesting and familiar making all the dishes sound fantastic. Which they were. My starter was Serrano ham, a favourite of mine, but I was torn between that and the asparagus and poached ducks egg.

Our wine came too late for the starter which was a shame, but when it arrived, it was on the house. Roast lamb main was perfection, as were all the sides. My wife found the risotto too salty but this was returned and quickly rectified without fuss.

Dinner for three £144 - excellent value, quality, service and atmosphere. I fully recommend Oscars.
