Osteria Posillipo Pizzeria - Canterbury

We dropped into this lovely little Italian without booking early on a Friday night while visiting Canterbury. The service was careful and attentive, and the wine list had a nice choice of Syrah, which we enjoyed. My friend and I shared a bowl of mussels in white wine sauce for starters, which were cooked to perfection - this always seems a difficult thing to do these days. We were also given a couple of lovely little ciabatta bread rolls to soak up the sauce, which was very light and tasty. We ordered pizza for mains but wish we’d gone for pasta instead. The pizza was fine but boring. However, I put that down to my poor ordering rather than the restaurant failing me. The topping seemed a bit watery, and my companion's came with no tomato sauce, which she felt made, the pizza a little bland. But we both agreed that had we ordered from any other section of the menu, we probably wouldn't have been disappointed. We wanted to return that weekend and try our theory, but didn't get a chance - particularly as the bill was very reasonable. I would recommend this place but maybe you could try something other than pizza.

Not a great Italian restaurant but a good one nevertheless. The restaurant is smartly dressed - starched linen, good glassware with very god service. A drop in, unbooked, Sunday lunch with son from school was well cooked. Fresh fish was brought over for review and my wife's sea bass was cooked simply - grilled with fresh herbs and very fine. Calf's liver with onions was excellent and much care was taken to ensure the younger son's roast pork was the right portion size. Vegetables slightly less good than the main dishes but the whole was made a good family outing and occasion by the quality of staff, attention and general care that we were enjoying our meal.
