Oyster Shack, The Description
Set back in the Avon river hillside, with a relaxed atmosphere that is completely al fresco in the summer months and a simple yet effective 'Mediterranean' theme décor The Oyster Shack is a genuinely unique dining experience.
The Oyster Shack makes full use of all the fantastic local produce on offer to create the freshest seafood dishes; not too much room for compromise there - either you like seafood or you don't - and none the worse for that. The seaside setting encourages thoughts in that direction anyway and aspiration is unlikely to go unheeded away.
Time was when the oysters used to be sourced on the doorstep but presumably demand has outstripped production? Never mind, there are many very tasty options, both hot and cold, on offer in this simple and delightful little place. If all else fails you could start with one of their indulgent cream teas and sort of let the rest of the day go by until the sun started to dip and the mind turns to some serious indulgence.

Just to correct the original reviewer, the oysters for the Oyster Shack in Salcombe are still sourced locally, "Our Pacific Oysters are cultivated in the river Avon" (Oyster Shack Salcombe Menu May 2007). You can't really get much more local than that.

The Oyster Shack is a great find, the food is excellent well priced, the servers are very knowledgeable & hospitable to say the least. I have been to the Oyster Shack a few times and the specials are very tasty and always different each time. Refreshingly it seems like the oyster shack is not afraid to try something different the Mediterranean feel certainly makes a great change from a stuffy pub lunch. A gin & tonic and some crab cakes really can't beat it! 10/10 all around!! Marc Grant San Diego USA
