Pani's Cafe Bar Description
Ample proof, if proof was needed, that your friendly neighbourhood Italian café is a winner wherever it lands - even in Newcastle! I jest, of course. In many ways the Geordie has much in common with the Italians and the level of business at Pani's suggests that both parties know this to be true.
A mouth-watering and seemingly endless list of Italian dishes, at prices so reasonable your eyes will also water, sets the tone. And the wines, which unsurprisingly are largely Italian follow suit. No wonder one hears not a breath of criticism for this genuine little bistro. Long may it last and may others spring up to put the process of eating away from home into proper perspective.

I have eaten at the restaurant twice and liked the food both times. However, I felt the food had too much salt on both occasions and I was gasping for a drink of water when I got home, and so was my partner.

I've been going to Pani's for years, made friends with most of the staff, to be honest it's the main reason I go. I find the coffee to be just OK and the food disappointing (the chef's actually from Sunderland). But it's by far the friendliest place to go in Newcastle. It can be funny watching people think they're special because they're in a café, ha,ha. But aye, lots of kids, lots of pretty waitresses, Graham the 'barman' is a legend (me pal) and it's now ‘Non smoking’ which is great. Go.
