Parmigiana, La Description

This restaurant was established in 1978 and has been serving the good people of Glasgow and beyond ever since, establishing for itself a name for quality and consistency that is the envy of competitors. There are no vain aspirations here, no ego trying to tell us what we should be eating, just good honest Italian food, using a combination of Scottish and produce Mediterranean joined in harmony by down to earth culinary skills.

Dublin Bay prawns, courgettes and fresh tomatoes combine to make a tasty taglioni starter, or there's lightly chargrilled Minch scallops with lemon and olive oil. Nobody makes risotto quite like the Italians and their version here with porcini mushrooms, parmesan and cream is worth the trip, but in case something more robust if what you have in mind for the pan-fried fillet of beef with peppercorns, served with a Tarragon cream sauce. Puddings, well what can one say, but it's refreshing when no prisoners are taken and you are invited to eat Decadent Dark Chocolate and orange mousse, topped with a white chocolate mousse.

Wines start at £13.50 with a decent house red and white, £3.50 a glass. Service is as ebullient as ever and most people seem to leave with only one thought in mind - how soon before they return

Your Reviews of Parmigiana, La

Tony Edwards (6 November 2006)

Still a pleasant experience after its make-over. The new décor is aiming at opulence, and succeeds even though I much preferred the Italian spring colours of the original. The menu standards - lobster ravioli, venison medallions with polenta - are up to scratch and the service is as attentive, relaxed and professional as usual. The only bum note was in regard to the desserts, which bore all the marks of having been brought in. Their once distinctive version of tiramisu has been replaced by a manufactured concoction. Shame.

La Parmigiana is a small, well established restaurant in Glasgow, with a relaxed atmosphere, white table cloths and crystal glasses give an air of opulence. We have eaten there several times, each time the food is consistently excellent, it is always a pleasure to return.

We had to start seafood pasta which was exquisite, with an extensive mixture of fish. Absolutely sublime! For seconds we had roasted Gressingham duck breast, and fillet of beef with a pepper sauce. The menu is not extensive, but with everything cooked to order, I would not expect it any other way. There are a small selection of home made pastas with meat, fish and also vegetarian choices. The wine list although only Italian, has a wide selection to suit all tastes. We had a bottle of Sicilian White, to die for at only £20.50. The service as always is friendly, professional and unobtrusive.
