REVIEWS OF Pear Tree Inn

Derek Tunnicliffe (25 November 2009)

It was a wet Monday night in November 2009 and we were a party of four visiting from France, guests were fairly local. We had pre-dinner drinks in cosy, pub bar that included four cask ales - all sound choices according to our CAMRA-member guest. We stuck to one of the excellent by-the-glass wines. The menu was so tempting it was difficult to choose, but there were choices for all - veggie, fish-only and meat eaters. The dining rooms are large, but each small enough to look quite full with six tables - as the night we went. Olde worlde looks with beams, and well-spaced plain wooden tables. The food was excellent in each of the three courses. All four of us were wowed by the clever combinations on our plates. And the bottle of NZ Sauvignon Blanc was up to the challenge of both line-caught sea bass and duck - generous, complementary flavours. I'm not strong on sweets but each of those I tasted was meant to seduce me - and they did. The ice creams and sorbets were both novel and appropriate to each dish. Bravo! Service was warm, friendly and efficient all round. Not hurried, ever-willing, it seemed. Bill came to about £150, including pre-dinner drinks. Guests enthusiastic to book again; and we hope the same team are in residence next year when we visit. It’s fully recommended.

Mr Courtny (10 September 2008)

My food at Pear Tree Inn was wonderful, a beautiful rare steak with homemade chips. The puddings were amazing with a beautiful cheese cake and the service was amazing as well. We didn’t even have to wait for drinks as we were offered drinks when we were seated. The bar snacks were good as was the homemade pork scratchings and olives. The dinner was lovely.
