Peen's in Broadstairs is a real gem. It's a bar, with a European feel, but it also serves the best food in town. I love it because its food is consistently good - which is so important. But this Sunday, it surpassed itself. I had probably the best roast that I've ever had out, and my co-diners all agreed. Belly of pork melted in the mouth, without fat and crunchy crackling with a slightly chewy underneath - how was that possible? With the usual good roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were some imaginative vegetables - pureed squash, sauteed savoy cabbage with bacon wrapped in a little parcel, and cauliflower and broccoli cheese. There was enough gravy - and it was delicious too. Top notch!
