Piccolino - Manchester
8 Clarence Street, Manchester, M2 4DW
It's bright, it's vivacious and it epitomises Italy perfectly, bringing you a lovely and continental setting, right here in the UK. Chic and modern elements fuse seamlessly with traditional charm and classic brasserie feel, and what you get is an ambience that resonates with a vibrant and contemporary buzz. The food is simply some of the best you can have outside Italy, and the fresh and superb quality ingredients along with the Neapolitan wood stone oven, makes sure that every dish is turned out authentically. The fritto misto with fried squid, king prawn, asparagus and roasted garlic mayonnaise is a great way to begin, and crispy duck with honey roasted apples and Valpolicella red wine sauce makes a delicious main course. It's bright, it's vivacious and it epitomises Italy perfectly, bringing you a lovely and continental setting, right here in the UK. REVIEWS OF Piccolino - Manchester
KAZZ (10 January 2008)
I always go to Piccolino, and Ettore always looks after us - the food and atmosphere is always hundred per cent, so we decided to go New Years eve after paying a ten pound deposit each, for my partner and myself. We arrived and it was packed - there was music on which they never usually have on and a lovely greeting from Ettore. After our lovely starters, mains and drinks, the bill came to sixty five pounds, they took the twenty pound deposit off the bill, and turned out really cheap, a great night, and I do believe they were open till quite late. It is a shame we decided to leave for a club at 10.30.
Nick (30 December 2007)
For a special family Xmas event, 21 of us ate at Piccolinos in Manchester on the 29th of December 2007. The food was of very good quality and service was speedy but we would not return for a number of reasons, primarily the lack of any personal care and attention. The service was efficient but humour was lacking, there was no attempt made to relate to our party and we felt 'processed'.
Having gone to considerable trouble to provide in advance 18 of the 21 people's orders, we ended up with four extra desserts, some of those having pre-ordered making the simple error of responding to the waiter's request and ordering a second time. After explanation the manager agreed to take back just one, leaving me with 3 unwanted. I was not prepared to cause a scene in front of family and therefore chose not to do so. Given our bill was £677 I would have expected a more customer friendly response, returning the unwanted would not have been a problem for Piccolinos but added £15 needlessly to our bill.
Finally the restaurant made an error on our bill for which they apologised when pointed out, taking off only £120 deposit when we had paid £220 in advance- a simple error I am sure but it is always worth someone in a larger group taking responsibility to check.
