Pier 39 Description

pier 39 sutton coldfieldPier 39 is one of those gorgeous restaurants that has pulled its act together amazingly well, be it their stunning décor or the remarkable food they have on offer. Perhaps only those who have visited this classy place on Mere Green are in a position to confirm that all the glowing adjectives heaped upon them by critics and patrons alike are facts and not just mere words.

Decorated in stylish and muted cream, the interior reflects an approach that you might expect to see in up market city establishments, but the homely surroundings are the perfect foil for a place of this scope. It is nothing short of  delightful to walk into this beautifully done up restaurant, where you can choose to dine outside in the charming al fresco area, so similar to those on the continent, or inside where it is simply splendid.

Owners Vicki and Carl have wrought a number of fabulous changes in the few years since they have taken over the management and they assure you that everything in their menu is fresh and seasonal, with heaps of customer input thrown in wherever possible. The staff are pleasant and friendly, ever present to help you make informed choices regarding your selection.

Their decidedly international cuisine brings you starters of seared Scottish scallops with potato rösti, roasted salsify and artichoke bisque; chicken liver parfait with apple and saffron chutney and toasted focaccia, and Atlantic prawn and crayfish salad with sauce Marie Rose. Vegetarians get to rejoice with some delicious options such as open ravioli filled with wild mushrooms and dolcelatte truffle vinaigrette or baked goats' cheese with panko crust, confit peppers and petit salad.

Main courses feature a number of diverse and delicious dishes such as medallions of beef with dauphinoise potatoes and Madeira jus; roasted rack of venison with seasonal baby vegetables and game consommé, or pan fried fillets of sea bass with radish and beansprout salad and soy and orange glaze.

Before you agonise over the desserts, which all sound delectable when you see them on the menu, you would be well advised to try the assiette of chocolate, a sparkling selection of milk chocolate and Seville orange cheesecake, white chocolate and pistachio pannacotta and dark chocolate truffles.

Their wine list is extensive, with something to suit every taste, and you could have a really enjoyable time choosing from among the eclectic selection of whites, reds, rosés, as well as champagnes and sparkling wines. The bar is also well stocked with spirits, beers and liqueurs for the discerning soul seeking alternative refreshment.

Sally-Ann Bloomer sums up Pier 39 in her review for Birmingham Life, ?If you have not been before, give it a try and you won't be disappointed. If you have been before, you don't need me to tell you how good it is.? More information including menus, events and much more, is available on their Website.

This place is wonderful and every dish we have sampled - the starters, mains and side orders have all been awesome. Book it, get excited, eat there and then rave about it for days. The staff and the décor - I can’t rave about it enough.
