REVIEWS OF Pizza Margherita

Paul (11 February 2010)

Four of us ate at Pizza Margherita prior to going to the Duke Theatre. Having read some reviews on here, we were a little apprehensive but the meal was really good and the service was excellent. I suggest anyone reading reviews about a restaurant take them with a pinch of salt and find out for themselves. In my opinion the Pizza Margherita is excellent value and the food and drinks are spot on.

Stuart & Katy (13 April 2009)

Oh dear! We had not eaten at Pizza Margherita for a while and after our experience there this time neither I nor the money will be rushing back. The food was poor, at best. I am not sure how you can get a Greek salad so wrong, putting some cubes of preformed feta cheese with sad lettuce leaves does not count. The money ordered tomato and mozzarella salad which true to its word had both those ingredients and not a lot more. If you are paying just shy of £5 for a salad starter you expect that the ingredients will be the juiciest, and most flavoursome - they were not. The tomato's lacked any flavour, the mozzarella was more rubbery than a second hand tyre and all of this was dressed in a crass 'Italian' salad dressing with a couple of token basil bits thrown on - even they, the strongest of herb flavour lacked any. Alas, the name of this restaurant is not 'Salad Margherita' we thought and so onto the main, a pizza each. I had the pescatore, very average and unbelievably salty, with not a sight of any fresh ingredients. The money had the Americana hot. The 'hot', we assume to emphasise the extra heat, there was none, or if it is meant as a comparison I dread to think how 'cold' the standard Americana must be. It was also very bland. Both pizzas were difficult to cut through; this was not because the dough was tough, the dough was actually reasonable, but because the knives we had to cut with were not sharp at all. While were on the subject of sharpness the service was no saving grace, the waitress was certainly not the sharpest knife in the block, and the service, slow and laboured. We were uncomfortable sat on the tiniest table in the place, which had three legs and was square so there was no comfortable way to sit at it. Although not ridiculously expensive, it was by no means cheap and in our opinion not worth half the money. At least the company was good. Our advice, if you’re not that set on having Italian, go somewhere else.
