Prince Alfred & Formosa Dining Room

A beautiful frontage, original wood panels and traditional plate glass are only a few of the things customers notice at this Formosa Street mainstay. Inside its no less attractive, the bar area at Price Alfred is split into five separate cosy spots, and the adjoining Formosa Dining Room places emphasis on warm service and great food.

The guiding tenets behind the cooking are seasonality and ample portions, and starters certainly display some novelty, think mussels with spicy coconut and sugar snaps, and smoked wild venison salad with onion marmalade and pesto. Main courses venture in different directions, from wild boar sausages and half a native East Coast lobster to 8 oz open Exmoor beef burger topped with pan-fried foie gras, sautéed new potatoes and Madeira sauce.

Price Alfred's bar menu provides much respite to those looking for a quick bite and their drinks list is well-chosen with several wines available by the glass.
