Punjab Restaurant, The Description

The Punjab Restaurant was originally opened in 1947 as London's premier Punjabi restaurant and has been run by three generations of the Singh Maan family ever since. The quality remains high and dishes are all strictly from the Punjab region including favourites such as jalfrezi and tandoori dishes. However, there are plenty of more unusual options here that are well worth a try including the anari murga, a pomegranate flavoured chicken dish or acharri gosht, a picked lamb dish that tastes far far better than it sounds - trust me.

I have eaten in lots of Indian restaurants in London, and for this level of style and price, I think it is very good. The decor and service is average but I found the food to be some of the best I have tasted. My wife always likes butter chicken and I always find it the least appealing on the menu but there it is really tasty. My lamb dish was well cooked and the bread was fresh. If you fancy a curry in Covent Garden, give it a go.

I ate at The Punjab Restaurant with my partner and was disappointed with the food and service. Perhaps the meat dishes are better, but I had vegetable biryani and my partner had sag bhaji and special house dal - all flavourless. The service was fast, so we were able to get in and out quickly. Being an avid Indian food lover, I have tried various Indian cuisines in India and London and I wish people who visit the tourist destination of Covent Garden leave with a better picture of Anglo-Indian food.
