Queen's Head Inn, The

The Queen's Head has a long and proud tradition of providing for the needs of travellers and locals alike, together with an association with towards the breweries that have in the past been a feature of village life.

Long closed, tradition has been revived and the pub now brews its own excellent beer. Furthermore CAMRA has blessed it with the Pub of the Year Award.

A menu which changes every three months to travel with the seasons paving the way for such delicacies as the local venison and game and access to delightfully fresh fish from the Solway Firth and Irish Sea. Beef Floriana is a signature dish, with thin slices of fillet steak char-grilled accompanied by a shallot, Cumberland mustard and brandy sauce and unless the dread word discrimination be levelled there is usually ostrich, kangaroo and croc on the menu - no close season for them. Try the ostrich in their own red currant pate served with that local favourite, Cumberland sauce.

A well-travelled wine list keeps pace with the quality of the food, with five house reds from £10.25 and three whites from £9.75.
