R.S. Jones

153 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, 11566

R. S. Jones was a dream fulfilled for Margaret Mueller and Carole Olkoski who were keen on designing a unique restaurant where people could unwind within comfortable and cosy surrounds with typical country music to give it that special feel. Their motto more or less says it all 'the food changes, the people stay the same'. The opening dishes on the menu feature picadillo, an exceptional blend of fresh ground beef and pork, sautéed with onions, tomatoes and slivered almonds served with plenty of tortilla chips, or sweet potato pancakes. The 'big eats' are drawn from amongst chicken fried steak served with mashed potatoes and plenty of cream gravy and Rocky Mountain rainbow trout pan-fried with butter, and more.

Jones, like the key lemon, a twist on the traditional key lime baked in an oreo crust and the berry berry good which is blueberry, raspberry and strawberry baked with a lattice top.

REVIEWS OF R.S. Jones

I love Southern food (3 July 2010)

R.S. Jones is my favourite restaurant. It is in Merrick staple, the neighbourhood restaurant where the staff remembers you when you come back. They've been open for a long time, more than 15 years, and it's almost the same staff as back then. There are blackboard specials that differ every night- full of delicious south-western Mexican, Tex-mex, cajun or just American dishes. There are plenty of things on the menu without spice, most in fact. The barbeque is outstanding, so delicious. And my favourite- the six shooter skirt steak, with the "smashed" potatoes, is the most perfect dish ever. Portions are large, and well priced. Drinks are delicious and cheap. Fish is always fresh, everything is always good. There is music almost every night of the week and it is always a good time.
