Your Reviews of Raj on the Shore, The

Peter A (6 October 2008)

Our meal there was very disappointing. We were served four very small pieces of vegetable pakora, and four even smaller slices of chicken tikka as starters. The tikka was fine, but the vegetable pakora tasted like it had been fried in very old oil. At over ten pounds for the pair, the small portions seemed very bad value. Two chicken based dishes had seemingly started out from the same base marinade, but had different sauces added. They tasted very similar and came with no garnishing. Along with a decent portion of fried rice, and naan bread, the meal came to £37.95 with tap water only. The service was indifferent, and just didn't seem to have value for money. I only mentioned my unhappiness on the way out as my wife didn't want to seem fussy. This was met with a shrug of the shoulders, and a thank you sir.

Today was the second time I’ve been to The Raj in the last six months. Just before Christmas a group of us had a three course meal there. The food was great and so was the value for money, however the service was disappointing. Due to the festive period, we decided not to mention anything. We had lunch there today and no one greeted us. Again, the food was great, but the service let it down badly. Seconds after the main course plates were taken away one of the waiters abruptly placed the bill on our table. We hadn’t asked for the bill and he did not even ask if we wanted any coffee, dessert or more wine. I work in a company that often entertains clients in the area and I don’t think I will consider taking them to The Raj.
