Rajdoot - Birmingham

78-79 George Street, Hockley, Birmingham, B3 1PY

This restaurant, earlier situated at Albert Street, has now shifted to its city centre location and is back to  doing brisk business. However, there's nothing brisk about the service and ambience which is smooth and self assured, making for a restful and civilised occasion. Rajdoot is one of those agreeable Indian restaurants where the emphasis is on delicacy of approach, particularly when it comes to reaching for the spices. Starters from the tandoor include quarter spring chicken marinated in spiced yoghurt with fresh herbs and tender duck breast marinated overnight in mild spices, touch of garlic, honey, red wine and orange juice. The diversity of the subcontinent is captured in the main course section which features dishes such as lamb pasanda and whole lobster cooked with special Himalayan herbs.

REVIEWS OF Rajdoot - Birmingham

Denise (29 May 2009)

We visited Rajdoot yesterday - excellent service and the food is so good, you could taste the freshness of the fish, vegetables and meat, only good quality cuts were served. There were nine of us and so we asked for a selection of starters and mains that we could share as we all wanted to try a bit of everything. All except for one of our party who cannot eat spicy food so she had a korma and was pleasantly surprised at how mild they had made it for her - not that any of it was hot it was just so delicately spiced that you could really taste the food as the chef used such a light blend that it lifted and enhanced the flavour of the food. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough and at £22.50 for 3 courses I thought it exceptionally good value. I am looking forward to going back very soon.

I was in Birmingham for work recently and found this restaurant - the food was exceptional. I have to eat out a fair bit when I work away, and have had varied experiences of meals out in a few cities now. I would recommend this restaurant highly - certainly the best food I have ever had and worth every penny - the service was excellent too. I will make it a point to visit again next time I'm in the city. The expertise of the chef in managing to enhance the flavour of each ingredient whilst creating a unique flavour blend is amazing - I have never had better naan either. Fantastic!
