Ramsons Restaurant

18 Market Place, Ramsbottom, BL0 9HT

It is not until you catch on to the link between the Pennines and the Italian Appenines, that the presence of a real Italian hotbed in the unlikely setting of Ramsbottom becomes more justifiable. Then the credits begin to roll and you note that the Independent decided that Ramsons is 'one of the best ten places in Britain to eat Italian food' in 2004, and that in the same year they were awarded the Booker Prize for Excellence as Britain's Best Independent Restaurant. But at the 2008 Which Awards held at the British Museum - where else? - Heston Blumenthal announced that Ramsons was to be Good Food Guide 2009 Restaurant of the Year, so the progress has been maintained. Oh, you might also like to know that it takes its name from the wild garlic that grows in great profusion along the banks of the nearby River Irwell.

REVIEWS OF Ramsons Restaurant

Carole (16 January 2011)

We recently went to the Hideaway for the first time in January 2011. If we had read these reviews before hand, we would have known about the long spells in between courses. However the food is top class and the wine was excellent. The ambience of the place is lovely and well worth a visit for a special occasion.

Graeme (20 May 2010)

My wife and I went to Ramsons for the second time on a Wednesday of May 2010 with two other couples, I intended to book for the Hideaway downstairs however it was not open due to staff sickness. The owner offered us a deal to eat in the upstairs restaurant for the same price as compensation, we accepted. The food is excellent and the waitresses attentive, however you must be prepared to enjoy your dining experience over a three hour period. If you are a wine buff the selection is extensive if not a little expensive. The owner won the award for the rudest restaurant owner a few years ago and if you complain about any aspect of the food you must be well informed and prepared to justify your complaint as he expects all dishes that come from the kitchens to be perfect, this comes across as him being a little arrogant and aloof however it is a character of the dining experience.
