Rapido Caffe

79 Broughton Street, Edinburgh, EH1 3RJ

For those with an affection for the spirit of John Buchan and the more stable mores of times past, Quills at the Carlton Highland Hotel could be just your bag. At a time when long-cherished institutions are being swept away, not least in the world of restaurants, it is refreshing to find the likes of Quills standing firm and, more to the point, well patronised. So expect to find traditional dishes, with maybe just a frisson of tweaking to iron out any Victorian lapses. The result is some of the finest Scots-based cooking north of the border. Service is hushed and respectful, the whole effect is that of a cosy conspiracy and understanding between served and servers. The wine list follows the same pattern and demonstrates fully the gravitas that gives Quills the tone of a fashionable club where the provision of quality food is an art rather than a science.

REVIEWS OF Rapido Caffe

Leigh (17 February 2006)

This chip shop is fantastic! It is by far my favourite in Edinburgh, and I have tried a lot. It is unfair to call it a chippy really as the food is far beyond the usual standard with such a wide array of dishes on offer. Handmade pizza, fish + chips, burgers etc. Even the "small" bag of chips is very generous for only £1.10, it never fails to satisfy. Bruschetta has to be my favourite though - delicious! Homemade dishes available to be bought there and cooked at home, such as lasagne or chilli. Definitely worth a visit.
