There might have been a change of hands, but Reeds Restaurant has created an identity of its own although it is housed within the 2 AA starred Swallows Eaves Hotel. Situated in the beautiful countryside of East Devon, this wisteria-cloaked hotel is an ideal base to discover the natural treasures of Devon, Dorset and Somerset. The cooking is loosely based on modern British techniques and the menu goes to print daily with a sharp focus on seasonal bounty. Homemade pork pie terrine with apple compote and salad rub shoulders with cream of cauliflower soup with herb oil and croutons amongst starters. I took my girlfriend to Reeds Restaurant last Saturday as part of our regular circuit of local restaurants, and was so pleasantly surprised, not only was the food all really good, but the menu was really well written, and balanced. I'm an ex-chef myself and so I am really interested in the whole process, and managed to have a word with the chef: apparently he had gathered the wild garlic that morning on his motorbike, the fish was from just a handful of miles away and everything else was from within the county! Even more amazing was that he works alone, I don’t know how he does it! I just wish we had been before.

We went to the restaurant in January having seen an advertisement in the local paper and were so impressed that we have been back five times. Every time we went the menu was different and everything we had was of such a high standard, I don't think we will be eating out anywhere else now.
