I had the best meal ever at Restaurant 21212. I think this restaurant is out of this world; no actually it does belong to Edinburgh as it’s such a change to any other in the capital. The choice of two starters, one soup, two mains, one cheese and two sweets give you a chance to try freshly cooked food with a subtle difference, it’s just wonderful to try it, £60 for the five courses, but lunch is less at £20. I had an extraordinary meal there last week and loved every bit of it. I will be back soon as I just have to stay over in their bedrooms.

I went last night with my wife for her birthday; they just opened within the last week I think. I had been to Juniper in Altrincham before so had high hopes. Not let down, from the front door, it was a thoroughly professional affair. Attentive staff, but not over bearing, quick service and fairly priced for the obvious thought and talent that had gone into the dishes. The portions were small but I didn't feel hard done by as the tastes were exquisite. I have spent more for much less enjoyable meals. A real night where you wonder firstly, how did they do that? And secondly how did they think of that combination? Not the sort of stuff even the talented amateur could do at home, which I must say is a frequent gripe of this keen, amateur chef! Minor niggle that I didn't think the sweets quite lived up to the rest of the meal, however, well worth the time and money. We will go back...and soon.
