Restaurant at Altnaharra Hotel

It does not come much remoter than this in the United Kingdom. Not too many people have heard of Bonar Bridge, and Altnaharra lies 30 miles beyond along a single-track road. So lovers of solitude and sporting pursuits find their way here quietly to enjoy one of the last great wildernesses from a comfortable base.

The menu tends to be well-laced with local produce and the four course dinner could consist of a starter of a partridge breast in a redcurrant and port jus, followed by carrot and ginger soup. The steaks at Altnaharra are the stuff of which legends are made, served with new potatoes and the freshest of vegetables. A whisky and orange cheesecake comes served with double cream.

Altnaharra is very much the hub of the small community and is open to all. Considering the inevitable costs of running a restaurant in such remote country the prices are amazingly reasonable for food of such quality.
