Restaurant at Amberley Castle

Amberley is one of those beautiful South Downs castles, the prototype of which was brought to us by the late Alan Clarke in the form of his beloved Saltwood, all pebbledash and Gothick shapes. Clearly, at Amberley, great care and expense has been deployed to ensure that the most is made of all this.

The menu, whilst mainly classic does leave plenty of room for some some interesting culinary tricks. Hence crab sausage with Jerusalem artichokes, not to mention the rabbit with grain mustard mash. But like any other major enterprise in the end it all depends on the people and more recent observations on standards of cooking and service have resembled the graphs of an uncertain stock market. Perhaps this a temporary blip of the screen and by the time you go to enjoy a meal in the magnificent Queen's Room all will be restored to perfection.
