A strikingly beautiful house overlooking the River Cam and open parkland. It is a short stroll across Jesus Green from the centre of Cambridge, but you'd never believe it.

An elegant restaurant and bar provide the setting for a pleasant evening out. Start with a very authentic smoked fish chowder or delicious venison pate parcels with Cumberland sauce.

We particularly enjoyed the crispy roast duckling with pears and kumquats, but then roasted sweet potatoes, which provide the base, are a great weakness. Had we been vegetarian we would have had more than just the token choice one has to endure in some places.

For desserts there is a lovely fluffy soufflé of lemons and limes or you could indulge with little difficulty on sticky toffee and banana pudding.
