Restaurant at Cotswold Lodge Hotel

The Hotel makes for an impressive building even amongst all the architectural splendour that is Oxford. If anything this impression is heightened once one penetrates the inner sanctums, not least amongst which is the augustly named Fellows Dining Room. A fine collection of artistic treasures also helps to sooth the mind and relieve the stress of Common Room upsets. Poor old Morse would not have felt at home here. Dishes are quite traditional, there are some excursions abroad but in the main it is familiar dishes, painstakingly prepared and served with quiet efficiency amidst considerable splendour that set the tone. For me, however, the real piece de resistance lives down in the cellars and the wine list should be given the time and attention it fully deserves. Me, I think I would park the family with the Fellows in the dining room, take a good chum and spend a happy evening sounding out the wine list together.
